Common Questions about HPV and Cervical Cancer: For Women Who Have HPV

This resource contains up-to-date information on the what, who and how of HPV. This resource also answers common questions including how one contracts HPV, how HPV causes cervical cancer, how a pap test differs from an HPV test, how HPV may be passed to a partner, and if males can be tested for HPV.

These CDC materials can be printed as either brochures or posters and are part of a series of educational materials on HPV related issues. The brochure is 9 pages in bi-fold format and covers HPV transmission, related diseases in both women and men, and cervical cancer screening and prevention, and the HPV vaccine.

A Woman’s Guide to Understanding HPV and Cervical Cancer (English / Spanish)
The Association of Reproductive Health Professionals

This 4-page, bi-fold brochure for women seeking information related to HPV and cervical cancer. It’s colorful, and visually appealing, and discusses cervical cancer, its causes, and screening as well as HPV, tips for talking to one’s partner about HPV, testing, and the vaccine. Links to non-profit and government organization websites for more information are also provided. 

Genital HPV Fact Sheet (English / Spanish)

This is a CDC fact sheet for the general public interested in learning more about HPV. Topics include an explanation of HPV, how it is transmitted, how it can cause cancer and genital warts, prevention measures, testing, and treatment for warts, cervical and other cancers.

Genital HPV: The Facts (English & Spanish)

This 10-page CDC booklet is targeted toward adolescents and young adults.  There are many photographs and a question and answer format is mixed with simple narrative. In many instances, separate answers are given for males and females.

Genital Human Papillomavirus (HPV) (Alaska Native/American Indian)
Center for Disease Control and Prevention

These two CDC brochures aim to provide information regarding HPV and related diseases to Alaska Natives and American Indians. The content is the same, but the photographs, illustrations, and selected wording differ to make them appropriate for their respective target group. They are both 16 page booklets that provide information on HPV natural history, transmission, diseases (especially cervical cancer), the vaccine, and cervical cancer screening.

JAMA Patient Page: Human Papillomavirus Infection (English / Spanish)

One-page handout for physicians to give to their patients. It’s a brief overview of HPV infection and associated disease as well as prevention methods and potential treatment options.

HPV and Cancer of the Cervix: What You Need to Know (English, Spanish, & Vietnamese)
California Family Health Council

Developed by the California Family Health Council, this brief, one-page flyer offers basic facts related to HPV, its prevention, the vaccine, and cervical cancer. It is appropriate for the general public, specifically women, and is offered in three languages.

Cervical Cancer: What Women Need to Know (English, Spanish, Cambodian, Chinese, Hmong, Korean, & Vietnamese)
California Department of Health Services, Office of Women’s Health

These 2-page (8.5” x 11”) fact sheets provided by the Office of Women’s Health in the California Department of Health Care Services is exceptional because it is provided in 10 different languages. It is written for all women, and especially those seeking more information about cervical cancer. Topics addressed relating to cervical cancer include: signs and symptoms, screening, treatment, and prognosis after cancer diagnosis. A basic diagram of the female reproductive anatomy is also included.
