Roundtable Discussion Meetings, Los Angeles, CA
Latinas in California have the highest cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates. Los Angeles County specifically has the highest cervical cancer mortality rates for Latinas in the State. The CMA Foundation’s Cervical Cancer/HPV Project will conduct roundtable discussion meetings as part of the California Cervical Cancer-Free Campaign.

The Foundation's Cervical Cancer/HPV Project conducted a roundtable discussion meeting about cervical cancer prevention which brought together over 40 key partners in Los Angeles, health care providers and representatives from Latino ethnic media outlets to discuss the need to promote cervical cancer prevention to the Latina community.  The group discussed ongoing efforts around cervical cancer prevention in LA County, identified programmatic and policy-related gaps and also discussed story ideas that ethnic media can release in January 2011 in recognition of Cervical Health Awareness Month.

Roundtable Discussion with Health Care Professionals about Cervical Cancer Prevention in the Latina Community - March 16, 2011

Japanese American Cultural & Community Center in Los Angeles

The CMA Foundation’s Cervical Cancer/HPV Project hosted a roundtable discussion with health care professionals about cervical cancer prevention in Latina communities on March 16th, 2011. This meeting focused on discussing and identifying barriers that health care professionals are experiencing when trying to promote cervical cancer prevention in their practices (barriers specific to administering Pap tests and also barriers to administering the HPV vaccines).  Additionally, this meeting served as a way to connect Latino ethnic media with health care professionals in their community to identify ways to work together to get health information out to the community. Media representatives from New America Media, Impulso and Radio Bilingue were in attendance as well as freelance reporters.

Roundtable Discussion with Public Health and Community-Based Organizations about Cervical Cancer Prevention in the Latina Community - March 24, 2011

Japanese American Cultural & Community Center in Los Angeles

The CMA Foundation’s Cervical Cancer/HPV Project conducted a follow-up discussion to the December 9th meeting on Thursday, March 24th, 2011.  This meeting brought together representatives from public health and community-based organizations throughout Los Angeles County as well as ethnic media representatives.  Attendees discussed the articles that were published in January to acknowledge Cervical Health Awareness Month as well as future story ideas for Latino ethnic media to work on.  The discussion also focused on identifying solutions to the barriers and challenges to preventing cervical cancer in Los Angeles County that had been identified during all of the roundtable discussions.
