Background
Many clinicians feel overwhelmed and frustrated by the task of managing their patients with diabetes who may also have a history of cardiovascular complications. Clinicians hear a variety of messages on prevention, treatment and management that make it difficult to determine the best plan of action for their patients.
In an effort to address these issues and improve patient care and outcomes, the California Medical Association Foundation convened expert panels of clinicians and other health care professionals to review evidence-based guidelines and best practices in diabetes and cardiovascular care. We hope the guidelines, practices and educational resources included in this Guide will help clinicians determine the most effective ways to prevent, assess and treat diabetes and related cardiovascular disease in their practice.
