Richard S. Frankenstein, MD, FACP

Dr. Frankenstein is an internist at Riverside Medical Clinic, a multi-specialty group practice. He served for two 2-year terms as Chief of Staff of Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center and was President of the Orange County Medical Association from 1995 - 1996. He received his MD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City and completed his residency and fellowship in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases at New York’s Montefiore Medical Center. Board-certified in both of these specialties, Dr. Frankenstein is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians/American Society of Internal Medicine, and served as Governor for Southern California, Region II.
Dr. Frankenstein served from 1997 to 2006 as a Commissioner of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, where he chaired the Standards and Survey Procedures Committee and joined the board of Joint Commission Resources (JCR) in January 2002. JCR provides international and domestic consulting and educational services and international accreditation.
He continues as a consultant to the Board of Directors of the Institute for Medical Quality, a CMA subsidiary. He was President of the CMA from 2007 - 2008 and was Chair, CMA-Organized Medical Staff Section from 1995 - 1996.A CMA Surveyor in the Consolidated Accreditation and Licensure Survey Program and Chair of its Steering Committee from 1991 - 1997; Dr. Frankenstein participated in the initial accreditation surveys of Independent Entities which review certain health plan denials in California.
