The growth of diabetes and prediabetes in this country is a looming threat, especially at a community level. With that in mind, the AMA has partnered with the California Medical Association (CMA) Foundation and the Network of Ethnic Physician Organizations (NEPO) to help spread the word about the importance of diabetes prevention in local communities. FDA Orders Removal of Trans Fats from Food On Tuesday, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it will work toward the elimination of trans fats in the food industry over the next 3 years.  Trans fats have been linked with a vast array of health complications including coronary heart disease, obesity, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, etc.  Discontinuing the consumption of trans fats is a crucial step toward healthy living.  The CMA Foundation supports a healthy, nutritious diet and encourages the public to examine their own diets and avoid unhealthy additives, such as trans fats. American Diabetes Association Invites Nominations for Outstanding Educator in Diabetes Award

The American Diabetes Association is inviting nominations for its 2015 Outstanding Educator in Diabetes Award. The annual award program is designed to stimulate, acknowledge, and reward outstanding educational efforts by a health professional working in the field of diabetes education. Nominees will have demonstrated significant long-term national or international contributions to the field of diabetes education; have many years of effort in the field of diabetes education; have evidence of benefit to recipients; and be well known to others in his/her area of expertise.
