Jay Hansen is the Interim Chief Executive Officer at the California Medical Association Foundation, as well as the Chief Strategy Officer for the California Medical Association (CMA) and a longtime fixture in Sacramento and California politics. Jay came to the CMA after ten years with the California Building Trades Council, AFL-CIO as their Chief Lobbyist and Political Director. Prior to that Jay worked for four different Speakers of the Assembly as Special Assistant to the Speaker including Speakers Willie Brown, Cruz Bustamante, Antonio Villaraigosa and Bob Hertzberg.
As a native Californian, Mr. Hansen serves his community and state in many ways including as the President of the Sacramento City Unified School District serving 43,000 students. Jay also serves as a delegate to the California School Board Association. He also serves as a member of State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson’s Transition Team with a special focus on Children’s Healthcare and Workforce Development. Additionally, Jay is an appointee of Governor Jerry Brown to the California Health Facilities Financing Authority serving his second four-year term. He received an unanimous State Senate confirmation vote.
Mr. Hansen’s commitment to ‘paying forward’ is exemplified by his 30 plus years with the American Legion’s Boys’ State program currently as Executive Director of the Nevada Legion Endowment Fund. He also is a recent board member of the Food Literacy Center in Sacramento, an organization with a mission to teach children about healthy eating and nutrition.
Jay is an undergraduate of Occidental College and received a Master’s Degree from USC in Public Administration. He is an elected member of the Occidental College Board of Governors and an appointed member of the USC-Sacramento Center Advisory Council.
